How it knows when to stop.

From the engineering desk · Barsys, New York

Every bartender you've ever admired has the same superpower: they know when to stop pouring. Not roughly. Exactly. It looks like instinct, and it is — instinct built from ten thousand repetitions with a jigger. The Coaster 2.0 exists to lend you that instinct, and the whole trick happens in the five inches under your glass.

Set any glass on the stage and the coaster starts paying attention. As you pour, it senses the pour in real time — every ingredient, as it happens — and the light ring translates what it senses into the only instruction you need: keep going, slow down, stop. When the ring turns green, you're done. Not "about done." Done.

The light isn't decoration. It's the entire user interface — one honest signal, timed to the milliliter.

Why a light, and not a screen

A screen makes you look at the device. A light lets you look at the drink. When you're mid-pour, your eyes are on the bottle and the glass — exactly where they should be. The ring sits in your peripheral vision and interrupts you only at the moment that matters. That's the whole philosophy: the coaster should disappear into the ritual, not star in it.

It's also why there are no pumps, pods, or tubes. Machines that pour for you take the ritual away — and leave you cleaning tubing at midnight. The Coaster keeps your hands on the bottle. You pour. It watches. Together, you land the drink.

Built for real hands

Real pours aren't laboratory pours. People hesitate, double-pour, tilt the bottle at strange angles, use rocks glasses one night and a shaker tin the next. The sensing logic is tuned for all of it — and because every ingredient is checked as it lands, a heavy hand on the tequila doesn't quietly ruin the lime math that follows. The recipe adapts, glass by glass.

Smarter every Tuesday

The hardware you buy is the floor, not the ceiling. Over-the-air updates ship regularly — refinements to the sensing logic, new light choreography, new recipe intelligence from the Barsys AI app. Owners of the original Coaster watched their device get measurably better for years; the 2.0 was built with even more headroom. Leave it plugged in (the LED never burns out) and it updates while it sits on your bar looking good.

That's also where the library lives: 1,965 crafted recipes and counting, signature serves from top brands and mixologists, a full zero-proof collection — and Barbot, the AI bartender, which builds any drink you describe. The stage never runs out of things to teach.

Half an ounce separates a margarita from a mistake. We put the fix under the glass.

The best instrument is the one you stop noticing. Thirty seconds after your first pour, you're not thinking about sensors or Bluetooth or firmware. You're thinking about whether tonight is a negroni night or a paloma night. That's the point.

Meet the stage.
